Bekal Fort spreads over forty acres of sea side area as it happens to be the biggest fort of Kerala. The opening of the tunnel towards the South, the tank with its flight of steps, the broad and wide steps leading to the Observation Tower, the magazine for keeping ammunition are the important features of this fort. The fort offers an ample view of all the important places in the vicinity like Kanhangad, Pallikare, Bekal, Kottikulam Uduma etc.

Bekal Fort :
The Fort of Bekal looms large against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea. The fort includes soaring observation towers, cannon emplacements, splendors of the sea that spread to the north, south and west and the rich nature scapes to the east, a water reservoir with a long flight of steps and a magazine for storing ammunition add mystery to the place.

Chandragiri Fort :
Chandragiri fort has an eventful history which dates back to couple of centuries. The river Chandragiri was considered as the border of two powerful kingdoms - Kolathunadu and Thulunadu. Later Thulunadu was captured by the Vijayanagara Emperor. It was only in the 16th century that the great empire of Vijayanagara (presently under the Karnataka State) declined. But afterward the Ikkeri Naikkars or the Bedanoor Naiks took over the reins of Chandragiri as an independent region and the Chandragiri Fort was built for the defense of the kingdom by Sivappa Naik.

Hosdurg Fort :
The Hosdurg Fort lying further down, 15 km away from Bekal is actually a chain of forts built by Somasekhara Nayak of the Ikkeri dynasty. The historic aura of Hosdurg has a spiritual touch due to presence of the Nityanand Ashram.

Bekal Beach :
The shallow beach of Bekal offers, apart from the charm of unexplored nature, a spectacular view of the Bekal Fort nearby. It presents an unmatched experience of the sun; sea and the sand with the swaying palm trees that border the beach adding more charm to the spectacular landscape.

Kappil Beach :
Kappil Beach is located Five km away from this Bekal fort. It is refreshingly different from popular beach destinations in its inspiring settings and ambience with vast, remote and secluded nature. Kodi Cliff that looks as if it sprang straight out of the sea is also located nearby. Also enjoy the most panoramic views of the sea from here.

Kanwatheertha Beach :
Kanwatheertha Beach is a large swimming pool-like formation of the sea on the vast beach located 3 km from Manjeswaram. This is the major attraction of the beach which drives lots of tourists to this fascinating destination.

Azhithala Beach:
The Azhithala Beach located 25 km to the south of Bekal is the ideal setting for long walks and out-of-this-world moments. This serene, secluded and punctuated sea shore is accomplished with palm trees.

Ranipuram :
Ranipuram located 58 km from Bekal is a stunning landscape in every shade of green. It features the Shola woods, monsoon forests and grasslands. It is popular not just as a natural haven, but also as an adventure hotspot. It is situated at a cool 750 m above sea level presenting a wonderful tourist destination. The delightful trekking trails that nature enthusiasts are hidden beneath the evergreen.

Kottancherry (30 km north east of Kanhangad) :
Kottancherry offers a lot of adventure to the visitors which greatly resembles the famous hill station of Kodaikanal in its scenic beauty. It offers an excellent option for trekking in the rainforests near Konnakkad.

Possadigumpe :
Possadigumpe located on a hillock 323 m above sea level and 18 km east of Mangalpady in Dharmathadka is an ideal destination for excursions. The natural splendor and delightfully cool environment of this place makes it just the right place for a picnic.

Valiyaparamba :
Valiyaparamba is the most beautiful backwater stretch of Kerala situated 19 km from Bekal. There are four rivers in the stretches of this backwater which give shape to this network of waterways. This waterways lazily snake through the land, between palm groves and paddy fields.
